da hell?

Let me know if something is not working, or you think something could be made better.

I've still got "1 New Message" after I read the message I had.
Is there such a thing?

Edit: Took a break (or, rather, got back to work), and now the PM has been moved from Out to Sent. So...thanks or nevermind, whichever is appropriate.

It goes from Outbox to Sent when it is read by the recipient. There is nothing you have to do.

And someday I may figure out how to fix it.

So someone sent you one and it went up? Then you read it and it went back to 0/zed/zero/nil?

Yes?

Appears to be functioning properly here as well.

Is the cure simple enough to explain?

Don't dance quite yet...

My counter went from 1 to 0 with your intervention. Then I received PM. The counter went to 1. I read the PM the counter went to 0. Then today, I received two PMs, and the counter went to 2. Awesome.

Then I read one of those two, and the counter went to 0.

Wha? WHAT? :glp-scratchinghead:

It was easy to reset the counters to 0 by editing the database but there are other parts to how it works that I don't completely understand.

I found a script someone else had written that is supposed to put everything back [strike]Justin Timberlake[/strike] [strike]'N Sync[/strike] in sync.

It went sqrt -1...

o no, it just stayed at zero.

However, I've been exchanging several PMs the last days, and it always managed to count up to one and down to zero.

Which is something.

Somehow the system is messing with you

Oh my, now that I looked, I had -1 as well. A quick open to find nothing waiting for me there and it reverted to zero.

I found -1 messages today, too. The counter went back to zero as soon as I didn't open the message I had unreceived. This change happened when I accessed the inbox index table.

Still 0, and there were no abnormalities up until the -1 of yestarday.

Lance, can you explain to a total programming doofus like me what the difficulty is with the counter and, especially, why phpBB don'T provide one that just, like, works ?

We had a spammer a while ago that sent a bunch of PMs to users. When the user was deleted the PMs stayed behind. Somehow, when I tried to fix stiff something got out of sync.

I thought it was all working right again but then this...
