[RESOLVED]
Instead of forcing users to be sly and try to hide the promotion of their site within a post (or in my case, in a signature), how about a seperate forum where new and old users can promote their sites?

I don't mind shamless advertising (Visit my site!) However, I'm sure some people do. Having a seperate forum might cut down on random advertising, and those of us who have shame (not me, obviously) can have a place to yell out, "Hey, this be my site! Visit it, y'all!"

I'm too lazy to look for examples, but I'm thinking of two cases. One was the dude that came here and rambled on about his site and how phpBB forums sucked and his was so much better.

The other case(s) are some infrequent posters that come in and casually mention or link to some thread/story on their site.

Putting an URL in a signature wasn't what i was bitching about, really.

It also seems to me that the majority of the regulars here have their own sites. It would be nice to have a place to say "I've just writen something cool, come take a look."

On the other hand, this is Lance's site and maybe he won't like directing traffic off-site this much. I mean, Lance is a real bastard for charging us to post in the first place...

I should start charging everyone double...

A new forum for hawking your site(s), huh? I don't know. I've never minded anyone advertising their site, but does it need a whole forum?

I don't like the idea of a forum that (I perceive) would get very little traffic. Does anyone really think it would get well used? And more importantly, would it be a draw?

And if anyone doesn't know what STFU means, they can just look here.

On the left hand side of the index page and other pages on this site, there is a Links panel. At a glance, I see several of our users' web sites/forums. While an extensive list there might be too much, there is also the option of putting the site in your profile, as well.

With all of these options (especially the Links bar), I also find it hard to justify an extra forum just for user web sites.

Edit: Sorry, folks, there is no option for putting your website in your profile. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that, but at any rate, I see no reason to change my stance.

I think you were right the first time. It's there. It's called "Website".

Well, I'll be....so it is.
