Simpsons and Evolution

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Simpsons and Evolution

Anybody see the episode tonight?

I just wish everybody could agree to disagree, the way Lisa and stupid Flanders did at the end of the episode.
I'm not a scientist, but I play one on the internet.

I disagree with the idea of "disagreeing" with science, when you reap the benefits of all of science.

That's my opinion.

Didn't see the episode myself.

I didn't see it either, sounds like a good one though.
In my hands I hold a candle whose flame is small to see, And if I give but one light to you my life is filled for me.
But...In your hands you hold a torch for many eyes to see, So hold it high that they may light their candlewicks from thee.

Saw it, and yes it was good. The point about Lisa not bringing scientists into Flanders' church pretty much summed it up I think. :D

The Simpsons has been rather disappointing awhile now. The Lisa-Flanders exchange at the end of this episode was a high point, though. I wish both sides could learn to respect each other despite their disagreement and leave it at that.

I don't have a problem with people reaping the benefits of science while disagreeing. We let people reap the benefits of free society without voting, serving in the military, or even understanding basic civics. And that rich bounty of science that they enjoy so much won't keep flowing in unless they continue to support scientific research and development, despite their personal feelings.

Darn, I missed it. Sounds like it was a good one.

I disagree with agreeing for the sole purpose that disagreeing means you're not agreeing, thus it's disagreeing, and I don't like disagreeing... BAH!

Anyways, the entire issue is religious advocates pointing their fingers at scientists, calling them freuds and liars (practically) for bringing up Evolution.

At the same time, they don't call construction workers, genetic analysts, and various other scientists liars or freuds.

It's hypocrisy, taking what's useful and ignoring what doesn't fit into your "personal plan".

I just don't agree that this behavior should be encouraged.

Yeah, I actually agreed all along...

If it is your position that the dew on the grass is from the condensation of moisture on a cold surface, and it is my position that the dew is the tears of Night-Nymphs fleeing the rising morning sun, we could agree to disagree. Or one of us could just be wrong.

SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...

Postby Capt. Moosedoom » Mon May 15, 2006 11:09 pm

anyways,..I saw it and I noticed that. But I also noticed the other religious episodes are quite strange as well...Lisa has always had religion, right? Like this one episode where the world ends and she, of all her family, is accepted into heaven. I mean I might be wrong about this buuut, did she have religion in this episode? It's just a question, it doesn't need to be answered...
