The Life of Pi

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

The Life of Pi

Saw The Life of Pi for the first time last night. I seem to be running against the herd with this one. Am I the only person in the world who couldn't stand it?

All I can say in support is that when I saw the trailers for it, I said to the wife "Why on earth would I go to see that?"

My business partner has strongly warned me off it, he liked it but said I would hate it.
Get it up ye.

Ah, so it seems I may be running just fine with my local herd here then.

You should see it, Heid. I'd be interested to hear what you make of it. I was genuinely laughing out loud at some bits of it, as the story being told became increasingly preposterous. I don't think the film makers have ever been out on (or seen?) the sea before, either.

Ha!

Long time ago, like 1982 maybe, I was director of field operations for a Detroit company. I had a good tech crew in Kalamazoo. That is pretty far from any Oceans, though not far from Lake Michigan. Then one day we got a new contract for a location in Virginia Beach, Virginia, so I booked air passage for my Kazoo crew and flew them down to VB, to set the place up. I found us a Holiday Inn right on the beach, our rooms overlooked the sand.

I picked them up at the airport, and we went straight to the jobsite. Worked all day, then I took them to the hotel, and the beach. Some of the guys had never seen the ocean.

So standing there at the water's edge, I asked one guy, "So Brian, what do you think of the ocean?" He said, "It's not as big as I thought it would be."

That's pure comedy genius, right there.

Tries to cross the line between fantasy and reality. Which is where most youngsters addled anime minds are at these days. Like the guy who designed the current microsoft office suite of software.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

It was way too religious for me. The whole thing about two stories was far too transparently religious. I don't mind people having a hard-on for God, I just don't like them poking it in my face.
