Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Saw this at the weekend.

IMDB plot summary wrote:A young British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a terrifying riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorienting, alien and deadly landscape.

It's pretty gritty and not very cheery, but I wholeheartedly commend it to the house.

To my considerable surprise, it's well balanced in demonstrating neither British nor Irish propaganda and actually includes matter of fact hints of the activities of Perfidious Albion.

That is an interesting looking film.

From the MRF wiki page: "We operated initially with them thinking that we were the UVF", to which Soldier F added: "We wanted to cause confusion".

[internet anecdote alert] I used to work with a guy who was ex-RUC and later with another who was ex-Army, neither of whom knew the other. Both told tales that one of the IRA - INLA conflicts was entirely managed by the MRF as a way to damage both. One also claimed that Captain Nairac was thrown to the wolves as he had lost the plot. I believed both of them, take from this what you will. [/internet anecdote alert]

Wow! somebody made a filum about 1971!

I was 8-going-on-9 at the time. More interested in the last of the moon landings than anything else. Do the moon landings get a cameo-mention in the film?

Sorry, no. I was 0 going on 1 in 1971, so had to wait a while to hear about the moon landings.

When the Hollywood remake comes out, the soldier will travel to the moon with the astronauts.

Moon landing went down when I was on the road with a lady friend. We had been in a car crash and were stuck in RUmford Maine. A young couple took us in while the car was repaired. We watched the landing on their TV.

From the "It's a small world file": I watched the first moonlanding while on holiday in a tiny village called Durisdeer, in the Scottish Borders. About a decade later Neil Armstrong visited the village as it is one of the places his ancestors came from.

I remember at least one of the moon landings (can't say which one), but I think was a bit too young to truly appreciate the significance.

Thinking about it, I was actually going on 0 at the time. I wouldn't be 1 until near the end of 1972. This, of course, does not alter the fact that I did not witness the first moon landing, and cannot recall any of the others.

It may have been in Arizona, but I still watched it on TV. I do not recall seeing OJ Simpson, though.

If the space suit's too tight, he didn't take the flight.
