The Fl[ys|ies]?

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

The Fl[ys|ies]?

Postby Lance » Sat Jul 25, 2015 8:28 pm

I'm currently recording (to DVR) The Fly and The Fly for Cyndi.

As I went to message her about it, it dawned on me, am I recording The Flies or The Flys? I can see a case to be made for both spellings. I think The Flys is correct here but figured I'd bring it up.

So, what do you guys think?

That's an option.

I'd say it was The Flys, as it's two things called The Fly, rather than two specimens of the insect.

That's my feeling too.

Admittedly, that was my thinking, too. But since I am German and we celebrate partys or even party's, who am I to give advice :D .

The Flys, I'd like to be controversial but it is plural "Fly".
Get it up ye.

Hmmm. I never celebrated a party, though I have celebrated with a party. Seems so meta the first way.

I couple of decades ago when I ran with a much larger circle of friends I hosted MANY parties. It wasn't uncommon to have 20+ people attend and I would do it whenever the mood struck me. It ended up being roughly monthly. Quite often the party was simply to celebrate that it was time to have another party.

Ah, those were the days... Drunk Vikings, wrapped in bear skins, sleeping in the ravine behind my house in December.

My most popular regularly scheduled party was my New Year's Day - Hair of the Dog Party. Everyone did their own thing on New Year's Eve but they'd stagger up to Wisconsin somehow the next morning and we'd party all day. That one could have 35 people at it.

Okay, sorry. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

How did the guy put it? "We'd like one hippopotamus plus another one." Or something like that.

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.
