The Walking Dead

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Nah, I don't get zombie movies. And for good measure, I don't like the scifi soap operas they crank out these days. What's the Spielberg one? Falling Skies.

Every time I view one of these shows, it seems to have a relatively small band of people in focus. And the bad guys - whatever they may be - chip away at the edge, eating one this week, and another one next week, and yet the group never seems to dwindle. Then there will be one member of the group who works to thwart their efforts. And sometimes one of them is actually in cahoots with the baddies. if it lasts a couple seasons, we come up with hybrids. Somehow the martians have mated with us and we get some half and half people. or the vampire gets a conscience, or there arise halfway zombies. Oh, and the guy in charge always has another guy wanting to be in charge instead.

I started watching it when it was first on - I saw a few of the first series and then just fell out of the habit of watching it, and didn't go back.

I agree with Enzo. I've tried to watch 100 and Defiance recently, and everybody being either good or bad depending on the "plot" of any one individual episode was almost as annoying as people being in cahoots with each other in one episode, then trying to kill each other in the next, and then back in cahoots. It's like nobody has any memory whatsoever. I've started trying to watch Extant and am two episodes in. So far, so fucking awful.

We seem to like them all. The 100, Defiance, TWD. Can't get enough of them.

If you haven't invested more than 2 hours in Extant, it may not be worth continuing. It concluded its run this Summer after 2 seasons. We did watch it, and it was okay, but just barely. There are better things to waste your time on.

I agree with the formula you both laid out for these shows. They pretty much all do do that. I think one of the things that makes TWD better though is that they avoid that to a large degree.

I did enjoy as much as I saw about TWD, but I think there's now too much of it for me to bother trying to catch up with.

We picked it up in season 4 so we binge watched seasons 1-3 and the first half of 4. It's in season 6 now.

Episode 73 just aired last night. List of TWD Episodes

If you have the time, it's worth it IMHO.

While it's true that TWD will occasionally kill off core members, it's hard for me to watch because of the sheer stupidity of the survivors.

Compared to what? When measured against any blonde co-ed in any slasher flick, the TWD survivors are downright brilliant.

I use shows like TWD to help educate Cyndi on how to behave when the real Zombie Apocalypse happens.

Well, I wouldn't want to give anything away. I was hoping we could have a thread to discuss the series.

I love that commercial! It's from last year but they've been running it again recently.

"Why not take that running car?"

My sister-in-law bought me seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead about two years ago. I finally watched them this month while my wife and kids are out of the house.

So far, the survivors have done some pretty cringe-worthy things. It's as if they've never watched a zombie movie before.

AMC is replaying them all, one full season each Sunday for the next 5 weeks. Season 1 was last week and season 2 is this weekend but you've already seen them. If you want to see the rest, season 3 will be on the 17th and so on. They're doing the whole season in a day, starting pretty early in the morning.

And yes, it seems all characters in any zombie based entertainment exist outside of a world where zombie based entertainment ever existed.

Except Zombieland. Columbus really knew his shit.

As a metaphor for much of the condition of modern humanity, I get the concept of walking dead. I personally feel that where the genre needs to go is drama-doc portrayal of modern day political figures as Jekel and Hyde characters with zombie alter egos or something like that. Reality with a comedic twist sort of thing.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.
