The Office

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

The Office

The USA TV series with Steve Carell.

I don't get the show. Seriously, I need someone to explain to me how to watch it.

There are various kinds of humor. There are movies like Airplane with all the derivative jokes, references, and inside gags. And don't call me Shirley. Some of their jokes are subtle, others are in your face, but they just deliver them and keep going. Contrast with the Police Academy films. All the jokes are obvious, low brow, and telegraphed.

I watch the office, and frankly I don't even see jokes. I don't see what should be funny. I never see anything I would be wanting to quote to my friends the next day. I get when people say it is a little like Dilbert, but while I find Dilbert amusing, this just makes me uncomfortable for the cast.

But it has been on for years and has garnered various awards, so I must be missing something.

It’s a remake of a UK show that I found unwatchable and embarrassing.
Get it up ye.

I believe the phrase "that's what she said" came from there. Or so I've been told.

We also found it unwatchable. We tried a few times and just don't get it.

I feel better. "That's what she said" jokes have been around for decades. I recall them going around the bar back in the 1970s. They may be seeing a popular resurgence due to this show, I suppose.

Well thanks, I feel better I am not alone in this.
