Lift Music

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Lift Music

The Italian restaurant I go to has been good to me.

However, whatever their source of the lift music cover versions playing on their sound system, I am unable to identify any tune I recognise, where I did not strongly prefer the original.

Dunfermline’s finest, named after a town I know well, their best known tune, completely lift-ised- that was just a crime.

This particular crime against music was committed by Sarah Menescal. A quick Google of her name produces a number of images, which are certainly better to look at than a blank wall, but also have the important feature of lacking any sound.

As they write in the catalogue of my eco-conservative upmarket mail-order company, there is no good idea that someone can't offer a little cheaper, and a little worse.

Dining in a local restaurant one day when the familiar strains of Dave Brubeck's Take Five came on the Muzak. Then I noticed they had crammed the signature 5/4 timing into 4/4. Ewg.

Oh that one. It's an Everly Brothers cover so you can somewhat excuse her I suppose.

Bugger. Forgot that (or never knew it). I was thinking Nazareth was the original performer.

In that case, I still much prefer their cover to hers.

Me too. And I like their Joni Mitchell cover (This Flight Tonight). They were rightfully incensed at Heart (for blatantly ripping off the main riff of that one for 'Barracuda').
