RIP Judith Durham

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Oh she is a great loss! I was a fan of the Seekers in my youth - and Judith Durham was always their star. And though no Australian, I thought that "I Am Australian" was a great alternative anthem, with the first verse focusing on the Aboriginals, or First Nations as I gather they now prefer to call themselves: "For 40,000 years I've been the first Australian" - at a time when the official anthem was still proclaiming that Australia was a young country. And the line "And from all the lands on earth we come" shows a perspective that Australian governments haven't always appeared to share!

RIP indeed.

Yes - and at 73, Olivia Newton-John was too young. Another victim of cancer.

Judith Durham, I see, suffered from lifelong bronchiectasis after catching measles at 4. If a legacy is to remind Australians of the potential consequences of not vaccinating their kids, then that will be worth something.

Incredible that she could sing so well! She had a powerful soprano - really impressive set of pipes just looking back at these old videos
