SMF & PHPBB

Postby Bill_Thompson » Wed Sep 02, 2009 11:30 pm

OK, there are three things that are cool out there that we can use on web sites. They are:

Forum or BBS Software
CMS (Content Management System) Software
and Blog software.

There are two leading BBS packages, SMF and PHPBB and it seems to me that SMF is better. Here is why. If you want to get sophisticated and extreme, you might want to have both a CMS and a forum system on one site. But then you have two databases and a visitor might have to sign up for both. Ah, but here is what makes SMF cool. They offer bridge systems that make it so that you can connect to a CMS system from SMF.

You have made more posts on this BBS than anyone and you do not know what a BBS is.

"Brian The Awesome", I think the only person you will ever impress is yourself.

Dream on, Brian. I think you wish we had something in common.

I think we do not.

But this is derailing the topic.

SWF and MYBB look better than PHPBB.
I am was giving MYBB a shot and it seemed
that the code was a lot more complex than
phpbb for customizing. So I posted a question
and found that the admin panel comes with
its own editor for changing some headers which
alter the placement of stuff on the page.

Very cool.

Also SWF has a tighter and more professionial
look and the produced bb forums look better.
