grrrrrrr....... I just had to do a system restore cause my computer had something wrong with it that my virus scanner didn't find, and I didn't want to pay $70+ to take it in. Good thing I didn't have anything important saved on here....

I use these two tools at work and can recover 99% of the infected PCs I work on.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

Both free.

Well, performed my first do-it-yourself virus removal on my computer. I was unable to download malware bytes or combofix onto my computer after I got hit, so I had to search bleepingcomputer.com searched around to find out what virus I had and found a list of all files known to be associated with the virus I had. Went through my computer and stuck all the files into one folder, opened my computer out of safe mode and used my virus scanner on just those files and got rid of the virus! Hooray! Only took me an hour.

Llance is there a tool to use to search for rootkits or should my Norton virus scanner be searching for those anyway?

Nice job!

Combofix will clean rootkits.

The more I read about using combofix the more it scares me to use it. Danger, Warning, Be Careful, Beware! I don't quite understand what is so difficult about it that someone would screw up their computer with it.... :?
