UK Keyboards

Postby Мастер » Thu May 23, 2013 9:35 am

Do they have dollar, Euro, and pound characters on them?

Trying to decide whether I should just break down and buy the US keyboard (Apple), which is the only one readily available here, or see if I can procure one internationally.

The US keyboards (on Apple computers at least) have a max of two characters per keyboard, so it's either just hit the key, or hit the key while holding shift - no ctrl, alt, whatever characters, at least not explicitly labelled on the keys.

It would be nice to have all the currency symbols, but on the other hand, I already have the laptop, which has a US-style keyboard, I wonder if constantly switching back and forward would just leave me perpetually confused. Or even more confused than usual.

Hmm, I have a keyboard case for my iPad and it has the € symbol but on the "2" key. I can't think what a UK apple keyboard looks like, other than a standard qwerty layout.

Hmm, just got the brilliant idea of changing the setting on my Apple portable to UK. There is another setting which produces a picture of the keyboard on the screen, so I can see what I'm doing. Shift-4 is $, shift-3 is £, and option-2 is €. By contrast, on a US-keyboard, shift-4 is $, option-3 is £, and shift-option-2 is €. The German keyboard also has all three, although with different key combinations. And I'm typing this now with the German keyboard turned on, so I keep mixing up the y and the z :(

I think I'll just get a US keyboard, this will avoid the cognitive dissonance which would result from switching two or more times a day.

TFT Mactep - Very helpful. I'd forgotten about the apple keyboard shortcuts

Let's see if Arabic puts the letters together properly.

ال باب

Hmm, seems to.

Mentioned that I was going to buy one to the fellow down the hall, and he reached into his filing cabinet and pulled out an unused Apple USB US-style keyboard.
