Spongy-Looking Hyperion Tumbles Into View

Postby Lance » Mon Jul 11, 2005 11:05 pm

Two new Cassini views of Saturn’s tumbling moon Hyperion offer the best looks yet at one of the icy, irregularly-shaped moons that orbit the giant, ringed planet.

The image products released today include a movie sequence and a 3D view, and are available at http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov, http://www.nasa.gov/cassini and http://ciclops.org.

The views were acquired between June 9 and June 11, 2005, during Cassini’s first brush with Hyperion.

Just the sound alone of "Spongy-looking Hyperion Tumbles into View" provokes some cool mental imagery.

Imagine if the quote were prefaced "Mars Rover Update:" and you didn't know what a "Hyperion" was.

LOL yea, I can see Wio furtively pouring over her grossly blown up JPEGs of a Martian rock looking for spongy hyperion....

Wow. Did you make the anaglyph? Nice job.

I bought a couple pair of the red/blue glasses when the Mars Rovers had all the great 3D images being released.

It would be nice if they could make some 3D video of the temple comet. Or have they?

It should be possible even if they didn't incorporate two cameras if they make the vertical axis the axis of revolution(if it is revolving) and then make double prints for 3D.
