Gravitational Lensing

Postby Lance » Fri Jun 17, 2016 12:04 am

Shine a light through a fish tank and it bends. Simple refraction, like we've all played with since we were kids. Light changing speed and direction when passing through areas of different density.

Isn't space denser nearer a star than in interstellar space? And nearer a galaxy than in intergalactic space?

So maybe Gravitational Lensing is nothing more than simple refraction due to the distant light passing through areas of different densities.

There!

I have now disproved Einstein and the Theory of Relativity.

I really need my Nobel money quickly though.

Well I want you to know that if it was up to me, I'd sign across the Nobel prize money to you right away boss.

OK.

1. What is the capital of Nebraska?

2. 42 may be the answer, but show your work.

"Withdrawn."

For what it's worth, the proposition proposed in my OP, before the whole Nobel prize stuff, was serious.

You need to get it published in a reputable refutable scholarly journal

If scientific enquiry can't call it BS, it remains a mere potentially falsifiable hypothesis, and then you win the money. BAUT is a surefire way to invite the BS probe, is all I'm sayin'.

It seems solid to me. My take on scientific enquiry lately has been totally coloured by cynicism as a result of the 'academic peer scrutiny' of my recent MSc thesis by professors from other competitor universities who only seem interested in acknowledging theories which support or validate their own work, instead of keeping open-minded.

(Edit: which is why we play the bullshit game)

BTW, I think I used to be on the cosmoquest forum, but I forgot my password. I might have only done 1 (or possibly 2?) posts there ever.

(Edit, I just requested a new password and logged in and saw an unread message from Heid from 1 April 2014)

(Re-edit: I looked up my 1st post there from 2014, and saw that it had been approved by the moderators. So now I have made a further (2nd) post, which is currently pending moderator approval. :- re-re-edit - and now a 3rd post :D/ )

The 2nd post was a reply to my first post in the same thread. The third post started a new thread, where I linked to the Bullshit! game thread here. I will see how long it is before I am banned. (Or whether we might have new membership requests?)
