So on Super Bowl Sunday, the moon occulted Aldebaran again, one of a series of occultations. In the USA, it was only visible in Florida, during the day.
However, a local astronomy club asked our school if they could use our parking lot to observe an occultation that night. Turns out, there was also a 7th magnitude star that was supposed to graze the edge of the moon. Unfortunately, cold ice clouds moved in. Before and after appeared to be clear, but not the hour during. After the super bowl was over.

I saw an Aldebaran occultation last year, but it was'nt that impressive: The approach was over the lit side, so Aldebaran was very hard to see close to the moon. The "winking out" effect couldn't really be seen.

They only become visible during occultations.
