Is Jupiter maybe about 30 degrees from the moon about now?

Too high on the sky and too far east to be Venus, I think.

Definitely. Venus is becoming a morning star in the next few weeks.

What you see is quite definitely Jupiter. It's almost at opposition right now, so Jupiter and the not-quite-full yet Monn will inch closer in the coming days.

A bit to the left of Jupiter, btw. that yellow bright but not that bright thing is Saturn. You might make out the "handles" (not easily discerned as rings) with an 8x50 held steady on your balcony railing.

Judging from what my hand measures, it's more like 15° between them.

I didn't measure, just took a wild guess. Apparently not a very good one.

Confirmed siting in the Southern Hemisphere (view from tubeswell's IRU iPhone looking south towards internal wall using SkyView Lite App, which can see through walls)

Saturn is close by, which will be enhancing the reflective brightness I suppose.

I noticed this in the sky a couple of nights ago (which will have been in mid-morning where Arneb is, although probably the day before you were holding up your hand. The night sky was cloudy here last night)

Looks a lot closer to the moon tonight. And I’m thinking it switched sides.

But I guess the moon moves about 12 degrees a day.

Also, I didn’t realise until tonight that bats drink chlorinated water.

Definitely separating, the moon and Jupiter.

Well, apparently separating, from earth-bound viewpoints. I think the distance between them has not changed very much.

It’s back.

If I’m reading heavens-above.com correctly, I should be able to see Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all quite close together. However, I think I may need my prescription updated for Pluto.

So I believe I am looking at the moon, Jupiter off to the side a bit, and Saturn in between them.

All three over my swimming pool. I hope they don’t fall in.

Have to get back in soon, so I can watch the late night showing of Total Recall.

Even Southern Hemisphere IRU SkyView needs glasses to see Pluto today it seems

I feel like I can definitely see a small little something next to Jupiter through my 8x42 binoculars.

However, I can’t say for sure that it is not just a star that happens to be there.
