Memories

Postby Enzo » Wed Feb 10, 2021 8:59 am

The older I get the more I find myself reminiscing. (Thank you, Spell Check) My former business partner calls now and then to buy us a meal and catch up. He is still active in the biz, while I am retired. But he is the only guy I know I can share certain things with and he gets it. We were chatting about the old folks home here, and I have found it to be a tough house to amuse, at least at first. I have managed to adjust. But I noted that here at times we have gathered in the community room, like for a residents' meeting, and I say something funny, I have gotten an actual round of laughter. This is not the same thing as two or three people laughing at a joke. There is a certain threshold. 20 people laughing is a whole different thing. It is an audience. I appreciate it, but it also has an intoxicating quality.

So we have one woman here with some sort of defibrillator inside here, and apparently it works on its own. She announced to us once that if we ever see her on the floor jerking around, don't touch her, or we will get a shock. SO I told her, "You know I dated a girl like that once." "Oh?" "Yep," she said, 'if you ever touch me I'll kill you.'"

They liked that one.

huh. thought your story would go in different directions - like when the two of you guys start chatting 'shop talk', and I'll wait a while then mention "you know, it sounds like English, but it's totally incomprehensible."

then I thought it would go into how Bill was having a meal with his wife and the Muzac in the restaurant started playing "Smoke gets in your eyes" and he immediately started singing the bastardized version of the lyrics that you made up some 25 years ago...

but I guess not.

Sure. From my childhood I would occasionally sing:
They...asked me how I knew
Turtle turds were blue
That is when I said
Turtle turds are red
Smoke gets in your eyes.

SO my old partner of course was subjected to this. WHen one day he and his wife were sitting in a restaurant and SMoke Gets in your Eyes plays on the Muzak. And he sang along in my nonsense verse. Much to the bafflement of his wife. She asks him, "What the hell....?" And he starts to explain, "Well, Enzo..." "Stop right there, that's enough."

you keep encouraging him then regret the results. "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

Meanwhile, the latest Enzo item was a pot holder (no pot included) captioned "It burned me!", and the next back was a bright orange reusable fabric grocery sack captioned "Papa's got a brand new bag!"
