Driving the point home.

Great song? Good show? Bad movie? What should be enjoyed and what should be avoided.

Driving the point home.

I used to follow formula one racing back in the 1960s. And now recently we are seeing TV ads for Heineken that feature Sir Jackie Stewart. I always appreciated his helmet with the plaid stripe around it. He was a very successful driver, but I was more of a Graham Hill fan myself. I found the Brabham H-16 to be an interesting motor.

Meanwhile people are complaining the beer ad is bad because "no one knows who the guy is." Sorry, I knew who it was the moment he appeared. But then I am ancient.

I know who he is and I'm only semi-ancient. If you watched Wide World of Sports you should remember him. I guess among the demographic they're aiming Heineken at, you wouldn't know of him unless you follow F1, where it's still common to read of him commenting on the current state of the sport.

Very cool ad, interesting take on the Bowie classic too.

I know him more as an announcer than as a driver.

I got into an argument with my sister once about the pronunciation or "Porsche". She declared it was "Porsh" and I claimed it was "Porsh-uh".

Her defense of "Posh" was that Jackie Stewart said it that way, and "He ought to know."

I countered that Jackie Stewart also pronounces the word for automobile as "MOOT-uh-CAH."

Not sure who won the argument.

If it is of any help, PORR-shu is the way it is pronounced in German. But what do we know.

The Mem met Jackie Stewart once at a corporate bunworry. He had some connection to the company she worked for and was there when they went clay pigeon shooting; a sport he was very good at. She said he was quite quiet but friendly enough.
