BBC nonsense?

Postby Heid the Ba » Wed Dec 13, 2017 10:46 am

Almost certainly. Is that an accurate translation of the word? And I would bet my pension they can't pronounce it.

It's a bullshit term, and certainly isn't the "Scottish concept" they describe it as.

I thought as much, I've certainly never heard of it. Is it a real word? And how should I pronounce it when I denounce the concept?

In IPA, it's: /kɔːsagəx/*

It is a real word, which can mean spongy, cozy or (more interestingly for this story) full of holes.

* roughly Kaw-sagach

Aye, it does seem they are desperate to jump on the hygge bandwagon but are a year too late. Nonsense it is.

Not that I'm ever quick to defend the BBC, as you know, it's not their nonsense - they're just reporting it. It's Visit Scotland's attempt to pretend that a Scandy concept exists in Scottish culture. Many do, especially up here! This one doesn't.

True, it is VisitScotland's nonsense but the BBC are uncritically reporting it. I'm also curious whether VisitScotland's choice of word was governed by ease of pronunciation.

Indeed, it's almost as if it's a Labour press release or some bullshit that Roof the Moof has spouted.

Down with that sort of thing! I still suspect that the more apt words are harder to pronounce correctly if you only speak English.

This is clearly photo-shopped. A real Canadian protester would have written "Excuse me, but I am a little upset. Thank you."

She's very well known, actually. She's mentioned in the Annals of Ulster, and everything. So the opening sentences...

How does a ruler defeat bloodthirsty invaders, secure a kingdom and lay the foundations for England - and then almost get written out of history? Be a woman, that's how.

...are demonstrably bullshit, and absolutely dripping with agenda.

And then at the end they compare her to Wonder Woman and one of the bints from Game of Thrones. EDIT: Ah, they've taken that bit out now.

Yes, all agenda. Lazy writing like every "Forgotten voices of . . . " piece.
