The second photograh shows a minimum of Algol. It's quite tricky to pick up the minima, which are short, and it's not easy to photograph, especially in late winter/early spring when a low position in the Northern sky, longer light hours and rotteh German weather all conspire against you. The son did it for a school project, with a camera mounted on a tripod. Algol is towards the lower middle of the two photos, in the upper right corner of the little quadrangle of stars. It clearly outshines its neighbours in the first photo (with the plane track), but not in the other one.
