He is an honorary member, and whenever he was able to, while he held high office, he had the Bundesliga and Fürth results cabled to him. Todays modernized stadium is still where it was when he was a boy, flunking private tuition and going "nüber afm Ronhof" instead.
Fürth used to be a city where many Jews lived - for historical reasons. Nürnberg was close, and it was an important economic center - but while the Holy Roman Empire existed, Jews weren't allowed to live there, as was the custom in most Free Cities of the Reich. So many of them settled in Fürth and did business from there. The Kissinger family (the city of Bad Kissingen is about 150 km to the North) lived there until the Nazis drove them out.
