Sounds like a prediction coming true

Meanwhile, Greuther crawled to safety, goalless against Heidenheim.

Some snippets from over the channel:
  • Bayern secured their 30th Bundesliga Championship, their 8th in a row (yawn).
  • More problematically, the first team to secure promotion to the Bundesliga and having all but won the Second League doesn't even exist: Arminia Bielefeld.
  • Hertha can still end up in 15th place, feet dangling at the edge of the abyss.
  • More probably, they could very well indeed end up below Union Berlin, who have something like a tenth of their salary budget.
  • Deä Glubb is in acute danger of relegation. They pulled back from the brink yesterday with a 6-0 over some hapless band of rumblefeet, but they are still only three ahead of the relegation playoff spot. I am afraid I can't touch the subject of football for some years when I'm with my in-laws if that happens. Keep your fingers crossed for deä Glubb, please!
  • On the other end of my in-laws, Hamburg is about to squander their promotion for the second time in a row. Similarly touchy subject, family gathering will be a nightmare.

Hertha two nil up at home to CL candidate Big Pharma Leverkusen 30 min. from time. I mean, come ON, this is ridiculous.

Hertha BSC 2 - 0 Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Let's see if we can play party pooper to the other CL contender as well, Mönchengladbach. They host us next week, for the final match day of the season.

Played 159 160 Won 74 Drawn 31 Lost 55.

She has her moments, that's for sure. Leverkusen always came late for us in the season in the last years, and it was always something like 2-6, 1-5, that sort of thing. The kind of match that would bury our dreams of going to Europe, or leave us in 15th place at the end of the season. Big Pharma probably thought they'd have a walk in the park ahead of them, especially after Hertha's recent string of defeats, which had already put us far away from Europe.

Vfl Bochum 2 - 2 SpVgg Greuther Fürth

Played 161 Won 74 Drawn 32 Lost 55.

Delicate situation for the wider family:
  • Hamburg, of Champions Cup fame, my mother-in-law's birthplace and home to some fine people I met through her, are facing their second non-promotion in a row. They must win their last game at home to some obscure club from the deep province in order to stay alive, AND they must hope that already victorious Bielefeld stay serious and do their best against the team Hamburg must overtake in order to secure the playoffs. Heidenheim. If they fail to make to the playoffs, that would mean talking about football would be perennially touchy for another year.
  • Closer to home, it's even worse. Nuremburg must not lose at home to Kiel. If they don't lose, they stay in the League. But IF they lose (and given their level of fuckuppery, they might very well), then it's up to what their competitors, Karsruhe, do against our very own Greuther Fürth. Greuther COULD be tempted to drive a knife into their perennial home rival's back by recklessly losing at home to Karlsruhe while hoping for another Nuremberg fuckup. This scenario, while sounding far-fetched, is much to likely for my comfort.

Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 - 1 Hertha BSC

So we end the season as the leader of the second half, at 41 points. After the first two coaches, coming home in mid-table mediocrity is probably the best we could hope for. But it was a dreary end to a terrible season. Then again, footy under Corona is always dreary. Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig and Mönchengladbach will raid CL next year, Leverkusen and Hoffenheim join the Wee European Cup. Düsseldorf and Paderborn get relegated (no lloss there), while Bremen fight for their life against either Heidenheim or Hamburg (see above) next week.

Given the revolving door at coach and Hertha being, well Hertha, not too bad at all.

Oh dear.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 1 - 2 Karlsruher SC

Together wirh Nurembergs embarassing 1 -1 at home to Kiel, this means relegation pöayoffs (to the Third League, mind you) for der Glubb. And the parents-in-law are scheduled for visit on Tuesday...

Also, Hamburg lost their last-ditch promotion effort 1-5 at home to thoroughly mediocre SV Sandhausen, and will have to spend another year in League Two.

Maybe it's good thing all family gatherings are called off due to the pandemic.

Excellent, all Rangers have to do is overturn a two goal deficit away to VW then beat Inter or Getafe and we're in the semis!

Our shoddy investor has given a press conference asking why Hertha shouldn't win the Bundesliga one day. Interesting question. My answers, in order of relevance:

1 Hertha
2 Hertha
3 Hertha
4 You don't buy championships by pouring out a few hundred million over a dilapidated football club, idiot. You need a history of excellent work, one not blemished by former coaches celebrating a three month ego trip before leaving for better shores....

With a game still to play in the 2019 - 20 season we have just started the 2020 - 21 season.

We’re away to the Sheepshaggers and have just gone a goal up. That has to be a good omen? Four teams undefeated all season?

Watched this on Sky Sports at my brother’s. Great result, and new season off to a good IRU start.

Ross County 1 - 0 Motherwell

They were 3rd last season, so had been expecting a loss there.

2019 - 2020
Played 163, Won 74, Drawn 32, Lost 57

2020 - 2021
Played 2, Won 2, Drawn 0, Lost 0.
