Believe me, the worst defeat of the Dutch Navy is much more embarrassing.

If it happened like that, sure. Is that version of events generally the accepted one? I'm an 18th C military guy, but very firmly for stuff in my own neck of the woods.

June 15th, 1919: First non-stop transatlantic flight.

June 15th, a bad day for royal types:

923 - King Robert I of France killed in battle.
1184 - King Magnús Erlingsson (Magnus V) of Norway killed in battle.
1246 - Frederick II, Duke of Austria, killed in battle.

June 18th, 1429: French victory against England at the Battle of Patay. However....
June 18th, 1815: French defeat to British, Prussians et al at the Battle of Waterloo.

I think, by and large, this is one where we can safely root for the English in retrospect.

I think Waterloo has enough for all of us. Much of the Allied army was Prussian, and even the "British" part had two divisions of Netherlanders, some Hannoverians, The King's German Legion and Scots both Highland and Lowland.

21 June, 1978 - 40 years ago today, The Ignominy of Córdoba. I was 9, I watched it, and I saw may dad do somersault at the last goal. Who scored the 1-1for the Schluchtis? You know who, my Scottish friends.
