Pearl Harbor

Postby Heid the Ba » Wed Dec 07, 2022 5:20 pm

So I had this friend Enzo, who had a friend who is half black and half Japanese, and every December 7th he attacks Pearl Bailey.

Every year
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

If an afterlife exists, you know he's up there telling this joke about 1,941 times today.

I think someone earlier said something about not quite getting the joke, and I confess I wasn't so clear on it either until he explained.
For his generation, Pearl Bailey was a huge name that everyone knew. On the MEF forum, he said
"Yes, that is my ALL TIME favorite joke. But alas, the Pearl Bailey reference is lost on today's youth. She was a huge star in her day."
He also went on to say (in 2010) "Holy crap, I just thought about it. I have been telling that joke for over 50 years now."

HA! This just happened in real life...

I had a few people over for New Year's Eve and at one point, the conversation turned to racial blending. Not sure how it got there, but at one point one guy mentioned in all seriousness, once knowing someone that was half black and half Japanese. It was not a lead in to the joke. It was an actual person that he used to know. As he concluded his statement, I didn't miss a beat throwing out the punchline. Hilarity ensued!
