Non-graphic executions ain't an oxymoron. Certain people have just lowered their tolerance for stuff that's been happening for tens or thousands of years. Hell, its just been in the last 100 years that this type of thing hasn't been considered a major event where people brought picnic baskets and kids.
It is precisely this thinking of "ooh, that's too gruesome" which will lead to the downfall of civilization. The barbarians don't think like that and will therefore win.

Precisely what Adolf and his pack counted on. They were wrong. So are you.

How about Pol Pot? Stalin? North Korea, every terrorist since the 60's? All of these people/groups know/knew that the West wouldn't fight 'cause it would have been too nasty and bloody.

I am sorry, animal, I shouldn't have written my post. When I started posting on internet forums I vowed never to get into discussions with people who get personal with everyone giving a different opinion ("Read some history") and who discuss profound subjects using improper language ("damn balls"; "dipshit"). I have never seen these discussions lead to anything but inflated/injured egos and flame wars. The subject that we might have discussed is too important for me to lose to this kind of exchange.
You don't know anything about what I've read or not read. You simply saw my disagreement; ergo I had to be wrong; ergo I couldn't know my history since it was so painfully obvious that you were right that anyone halfway knowledgeable had to agree with you. Ergo it was perfectly alright for you to throw your gratuitous "Read some history" at acomplete stranger before he had even finished more than one sentence. Granted, my naked statement without elaboration was not more than a provocation, a bait. But saying someone is wrong is different from implying he hasn't done his homework.
Sorry if I seem - what would you say - completely without any damn balls to you. But this is not my kind of discussion. You win.
Animal wrote:So its cool for you to be provocative but not me. Fine.
I was referring the the generic 'European' just like other countries seem to refer to a generic American. Its interesting how we can not get upset about these types of gerneralizations, but Europeans can. This is also fine.
It is, in fact, painfully obvious that you are wrong. Not only that, but you indulge in the worst types of distortions as shown by your statement "Ergo it was perfectly alright for you to throw your gratuitous "Read some history" at acomplete stranger before he had even finished more than one sentence." You HAD finished writing your first sentence since it was POSTED. I would not have been able to REPLY to it until it was FINISHED AND POSTED.
I'll gladly debate history with anyone provided that they know something about the period under debate, have some experience with how the world works, and can provide more than bumper-sticker slogans.

I wonder if Staedtler makes rulers. I know they make protractors.
