So, the CDU won the top job in Thuringia, but with AfD support.

This has now blown up, and resulted in the resignation of the CDU party chief, who might otherwise have been Angela Merkel's successor.

Amazing what you miss when all the news is on viruses.

Minor correction: The top job in Thuringia wasn't won by the CDU, but by the FDP, Free Democratic Party - the party of Hans-Dietrich Genscher, no less. The CDU did not propose their own candidate, but the FDP had the cheek to do it, running into an exquisitely sharpened knife held out for them by the Fascists (AfD). Otherwise, spot on. It has been quite a lively two weeks over here, but what with Brexit, Trump and Chines viruses, I didn't make a splash of it here on ICU.
