R.I.P. Ennio Morricone

Postby Arneb » Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:57 am

Died peacefully in his home, aged 91. A giant of 20th and21st century music has gone silent. Even those who don't know his name (although the IRUers probably all do) probably know his tunes.

One of my favorite composers and an early influence. Sad to hear of his passing.
Is there such a thing?

Very sad news. On of the most influential composers of the last century.

What I found amazing was that (at least when working with Leone) the music was written first, and was often played on set during filming. So the film was actually informed by the music, and the music is an integral and crucial part of the film. I enjoy the soundtracks to the Leone westerns as much as the action.
Listened to Ennio Morricone: The Legendary Italian Westerns again today, I highly recommend it.
Such an incredible body of work from this man.
Rest in peace sir.

I hope they were playing "The Ecstasy of Gold" as he passed.

That’s while Eli Wallach is running through the cemetery?

If so, a classic for the ages!

Yes that is the scene. Wallach is brilliant in it.
I always remember the name 'Arch Stanton' as well.

Another beautiful piece from that film is the 'soldiers theme'. It really stood out in the film for me.
That whole part of the film with the civil war diversion seems so odd yet works so well.
