Finally some good news from Hungary!

News from Hungary that all the opposition parties are banding together to defeat Orban. The deal is: only one of them will stand in any given constituency, to avoid splitting the anti-Orban vote, and they'll govern in coalition if they win.

If it sounds naive, consider. Those opposed to a hard Brexit did exactly that in a by-election in mid-Wales last year and beat the Tory incumbent. Trump was clearly watching - not long after that, he gave an interview on Nigel Farage's radio chat show and said that Farage and BoJo were both fine people and really should work together rather than against each other. Farage then agreed not to put up a Brexit Party candidate in any seat a) where the incumbent was a Tory or b) where the Tory was the favourite challenger. The rest is history. Maybe, given the issues under Corbyn, Labour would have lost anyway, but the Tories would certainly not have done as well as they did had Farage agreed not to split the pro-Brexit vote.
