He was such a benign, calm and cool presence behind the two self-centered madmen in the front. Great jazz drummer, I hear, too.

His “Watts at Scott’s” record (with his jazz band) is really good.

Playing with and finding (good) drummers is difficult. If they say Watts is one of their major influences, you know they’re going to be good for the song and will swing. If they say Neil Peart, I say look for someone else.
Is there such a thing?
