There are a couple of TV shows I watch occasionally about what goes on in the Emergency Room at hospitals. They are named "Untold Stories of the E.R." and "Trauma: Life in the E.R." but they are basically the same thing.
Doc, you should appreciate this one.
A trauma surgeon, the director of surgery at his hospital, was a patient in his own E.R. after severely injuring his hand and severing several fingers. He was being treated by a subordinate trauma surgeon, who he had specifically asked for. They were also good friends and had been for years.
The patient, of course, still felt like he had to give the orders much to the dismay of the doctor trying to save his hand. The treating doctor, having had enough of it, instructed the nurse to "give him 8mg of morphine for pain, then 1mg additional every 2 minutes until he stops talking."
I thought this was freaking hilarious.
