I thought I better put this here, so it gets more exposure. I'm in contact with the White House as I type to confirm its validity.

I've received unofficial word that the above photo has been doctored. I'm still on the phone with my contacts. Gee, I'm getting bored waiting.

I voted for him and his daddy. I'm a Republican thick and through. I've worked hard for what I have, and I still have a job. The Repubican's have always been my role model for success, and guess what? I'm living proof that dedication to great morals and ethics makes for a good life. :D

Short Story: A lady asked me when I was at Ball State making less than 5K a year. She said why would you vote for a Republican when you are in poverty. I answered, because someday I won't be poverty level.

I am living proof to this day. My parents are very proud at my success.

Not to get too flamey here, but... check out The Daily Show's most recent videos. The clips "Beleaguered Bush", "Inarguable Failure", and "Meet the F**kers" pretty much sum up my opinion about the response to the Katrina disaster...

Sort of pathetic when WalMart, yes Walmart gets congratulations from the people of Kinner, LA for delivering in a timely manner faster than FEMA or any other government organization. NPR had a bit about their efforts and the fact that they had trailers loaded with water and supplies waiting to go south after Katrina passed through. It would appear that WalMart is not the heartless corporation that everyone thinks it is.

Congratulations WalMart!

Or perhaps they just recognize a good marketing opportunity?

While the probability of truth in statements like that is rather high it still makes me cringe when someone actually says it...

The "a good deed with an agenda is not a good deed" belief always seemed rather one-sided and self-righteous to me, and more often than not seems to come from people who aren't in need of, or have never been in need of, the kind of help being provided.

I'm sure the people drinking the water aren't muttering about "marketing opportunity" and thumbing their nose at Wal*Mart...

Ah yes, one of these things that everyone knows, but no one is supposed to say...

The "a good deed with an agenda is not a good deed" belief always seemed rather one-sided and self-righteous to me, and more often than not seems to come from people who aren't in need of, or have never been in need of, the kind of help being provided.

Quite possibly. Is it true?

I'm not so good at these good vs. evil debates...

I'm sure the people drinking the water aren't muttering about "marketing opportunity" and thumbing their nose at Wal*Mart...

Well, if they are, then certainly Wal*Mart would think twice about doing it again in the future. But suppose they are not doing this. Does that mean it was not a marketing opportunity?

We have two possible motives:

(a) The executives of Wal*Mart get together, and say, look at this awful hurricane, wouldn't it be nice if we could do something? Our shareholders have entrusted us with a lot of money and resources, instead of trying to earn a profit for them, the reason they gave us the money in the first place, let's use their money to help out the people who are suffering as a result of this hurricane.

or

(b) The executives of Wal*Mart get together, and say, if we help out these people, we can get lots of good press, quite possibly overcome much of the opprobrium we receive because we pay our workers a market wage just like everyone else does, because we compete like everyone else but just happen to be a bit better at it, etc.

You may judge which motive is the more reliable. I raise only the possibility of the second.

I'll leave the issue of deciding who is good and who is evil to someone else, except with regard to myself, where I have already self-identified on BaBB.
