If the U-17 Women's World Cup wasn't important then Eurosport wouldn't be showing every game.

Wins for Canada and Germany so far, US up later today. Or possibly tomorrow I can never remember if it is yesterday or tomorrow in Kiwiland.

And this which kicked off five minutes ago could be the most violent thing you have seen this year; or most other years come to that.

May I ask that we once more support our noble Tongan brothers, this time against those Samoan scum.

So in the Samoa-Tonga match, the Tongas had a player named Sam Moa.

Pretty cosmic...

I hadn't noticed that, splendid.

It all seems to have gone without it getting too out of hand.

Obviously a double agent. The fact that Tonga lost proves it.

I've totally stopped following the cycling circus. Were there more figures like you, Heid, that might be different, but the whole dopage shit has totally turned me down. :glp-s182:

Then again, neither am I into the "if you don't puke, it's not tough enough yet" thing, so maybe it is just not my kind of sports anyway. :glp-s62:

I do not support any sports teams. One of the reasons is, there are no enforced rules. Basketball is a "non-contact" game, right?

I see this game report on CNN today:

Michigan State guard Travis Walton, the soul of a team that clawed its way to the Final Four with defense, grit and bloodied bodies ...

Either they are damn clumsy, or there is a lot of brutal contact taking place. Why not be honest about it, forget about pretending there are rules, arm them all with blades and clubs, and require the last man standing to score a point and win the game? THAT would be damn entertaining.

Oh, yeah. That would be hockey.

Yeah. Except those hockey wusses get to wear pads. :P

Arguably, basketball was worse in the 70s and 80s than now. Like hockey, teams would employ enforcers - guys whose pertinent skills were typically marginal, but whose purpose was to protect their skill players. Unfortunately, this protection was entirely subjective, and was sometimes interpreted as 'beating the crap out the guy who stared down my center.' The highly-touted example is Kermit Washington. Since Rudy Tomjanovich's run-in with Washington, the NBA began enforcing stiffer penalties for fighting.

Indirectly, this may have affected the outcome of the 2007 NBA playoffs. In order to keep fighting to a minimum, the NBA tightly enforces a rule which calls for a one-game suspension for any player which leaves the bench during a fight. During game 4 of the Western Conference semi-finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns, Spurs forward Robert Horry body-checked Suns guard Steve Nash into the courtside press table. An altercation between Horry and the Suns' Raja Bell quickly followed, during which Suns' players Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw left the bench. Both players were key for the Suns in this series because they helped control the Spurs Tim Duncan. Despite not participating in the altercation, Stoudemire and Diaw were suspended for the next game. Horry was suspended for 2 games. Even though the Suns won game 4, they weren't able to hold off the Spurs in game 5, losing by 3 points, and went on to lose the series in game 6. The Spurs on the other hand, went on to sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. There's no way to say for sure if Stoudemire's and Diaw's presence would have changed the outcome of game 5, but it's really hard to say that it wouldn't have.

I don't follow sports much, but our local Michigan State Spartans are playing for the national championship this evening about 9PM. I'll follow along.

Woops. We got our asses handed to us on a platter. Oh well, it was an excuse to order a pizza and watch TV for a while at work. WOn't be able to watch TV here after June 12.

I have an antenna TV viewing situation here at the shop. I don;t qualify for a home converter box coupon, not that there are any left. I ain;t going to spend the money on a box for this old TV. And I don;t want to buy a new TV either.

I can watch DVDs on my computer, I have a radio, and I can stream radio on the computer. So, TV loses.

Oh, and there is no justification for buying cable for the shop. Clients can talk to me instead of watching old Monk reruns.

I can only assume Arneb is too drunk to post.

Hertha are second in the table and above the Evil Ones.

With any luck we'll draw them in Europe next season.

I'll get drunk over Hertha when they have, as they always do, botched it at the end of the season.

Now, am I an optimist or what?

Hertha continue to tease us . . .

And Rangers won the Old Firm derby; only a last day screw up can stop us now.

Hey, maybe this year they'll actually make it a LAST MINUTE failure, probably with a humiliating defeat to already-relegated Karlsruhe on the last match day...

Wolfsburg 3 - 0 Dortmund
Bayern 3 - 0 Leverkusen
Cologne 1 - 2 Hertha

Keeping the race open...
At least this victory means they cannot fall below 5th place, thus garuanteeing international participation next year. Another chance to score no goals at all (yes, really!) against the likes of Wroclaw, Chisinau, Graz, etc during the [strike]UEFA cup[/strike] Europe League group phase.

Business as usual - Hertha fuck up... :(

Hannover 0 - 5 Wolfsburg
Hoffenheim 2 - 2 Bayern
Hertha 0 - 0 Schalke
Stuttgart 2 - 0 Cottbus

1 Wolfsburg 67
2 Bayern 65
3 Stuttgart 65
4 Hertha 64

And there go Hertha's chances. They could clinch the championship on goal difference IF Wolfsburg lost at home to 10th place Bremen; Bayern and Stuttgart drew their game against each other; AND Hertha won at last-place Karlsruhe with about 20 goals ahead... ah, no: 25, actually.

Realistically, they can land a Champions League qualification round with a last-day win; since Bayern and Stuttgart play each other, they will pull ahead of at least one of them; IF tey win...
