Has anyone ever use a Bowflex?

Cyndi and I are thinking about picking up a Bowflex.

Has anyone here ever had/used one?

It generally gets good reviews, and there was a study in a sports journal finding that you can get the same strength gains you would get using free weights. I think they were evaluating the Revolution model, the most expensive one.

Yeah, I've noticed. As a matter of fact, I can't really find anyone who has anything bad to say about them. I wonder what percentage of those sold just become dust collecters. Perhaps all the good reviews come from just 10% of the people that bought them that actually use them

Cruel Redneck wrote:there was a study in a sports journal finding that you can get the same strength gains you would get using free weights. I think they were evaluating the Revolution model, the most expensive one.

I believe that.

We picked up a set of dumbbells from 5lbs. to 35lbs. and a decent bench. As I learn about weight training, it seems that form is as important a consideration as any. I've had a hard time trying to isolate muscle groups with dumbbells where on a Bowflex it's almost impossible to get it wrong.

We are seriously considering the Bowflex Motivator 2 and the Bowflex Xtreme 2. The place I would buy from, just a couple of miles from me, will match the best price I can find and offers 100% trade-in if I decide I want a bigger one later (couple of years).

I've worked out on a couple of the machines at the showroom and it just "feels better" to me when I'm done than when I use the dumbbells. Another consideration for what ever I decide on is that there will be two people using what ever we end up with.

I'd go with the revolution if you can afford it, there is more designing and technology applied to it then older models I should think.

Personally I prefer going to the actual weight room. I've never really liked bowflexes and that kind of stuff. I'm more leaned towards each machine only doing one thing instead of one machine that does like 20. It's just easier that way. It'd get confusing with tryibng to memorize how to do each thing on one machine. I hate bowflexes with a passion. I am a weight room lover. I can stand to even look at bowflexes. I can't stand this thread. Yup I am leaving this thread forever.

There isn't currently a model named that. The current top of the line is the Ultimate or Ultimate 2.

Edit: Never mind, I found it...

Bowflex made their own website specifically for it.

http://www.bowflexrevolution.com/global/index2.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302035872&bmUID=1154995790931

I would at least take it into consideration as it is a much lighter and smaller system if you need to move it, exc...

Hope it helps.

Yeah, I found it after that last post. Thanks, I'll check it out.

Like I said, I can trade up to something like this later.

It's all about personal choice, if you have all the room in the world, get the machines you mentioned, but if your pressed for space I would go with the Revolution.

I just like the control they provide...feels better and less strenuous.

Here is a review if your interested.

Space is an issue, but that thing is $2,500. If it just becomes a dust collector, I'd rather it be a cheaper one.

If that's the case, go with the Motivator 2, and work up as you say if you need too. :)

 My bad Llance...I didn't think about the fact that most older people (no offense) don't have access to a real weight room. In which case is the only time I would say for someone to get a bowflex. I wouldn't go with an expensive one for right now. This way if you do use it alot and find it good for you to use and you know for sure you're gonna be using it, then you should go ahead and get a more elegant, more expensive one.

Better input this time? :P

Honestly, not that much, but a little...you're not going to be taken seriously with razzes at the end of your post. What does age have to do about access to a weight room? :?

If nothing else, at a certain age most of us leave public school and whatever facility access that includes.

SOme long time ago I joined a Nautilus club and worked out consistently for a couple years. I wanted to lose some weight. Didn't lose so much as an ounce, but I got real strong.

Dust collector? How consistent are you using your free weights now?

I've been using them every other day but I've only had them a couple of weeks. I'm on the treadmill every day now for about a month and a half, but it collected dust for a long time before I started using it. Cyndi used it occasionally before, but not regularly.

I quit smoking a year and a half ago and now it's time to improve again. A month and a half ago I would huff and puff taking the garbage to the curb. Now I can jog it and not break a sweat. I even raced Cyndi up the escalator at Sears the other day.

And I must say, with my new found motivation, Cyndi as redoubled her efforts at dropping a few more pounds and getting in better shape too.

Well, doing it by yourself is certainly boring...about once a month I drag out my bar and weights...they find their way into the closet again before the end of the week.

Um. I typically don't move. I walk around Wal*Mart once a week, and ride my bike to the library a half mile away like three times a week. That's it. I don't eat a lot, and I've been having problems keeping weight on lately. People would kill to have my metabolism, but I would happily trade them...
