"Memoirs of a British Agent" by R. H. Bruce Lockhart. He was the British Vice-Consul in Moscow at the start of the Great War and then back there during and after the Revolutions. Lot of interesting stuff in it, unfortunately all uncorroborated and he is very egotistic and a real blowhard.

I will be on holiday from saturday for a fortnight, so will plough through a large number of books including dreck novels, Anthony Bevoir's updated "Spanish Civil War" and a biography of the guy who broke Napoleon's codes.
