Leuchars Air Show

Postby Heid the Ba » Mon Sep 11, 2006 12:27 pm

Mrs B and I spent a very pleasant day on Saturday at RAF Leuchars Airshowwatching a variety of aircraft displays and picking up just a touch of sunburn. The Red Arrows were awesome, the Eurofighter and a Polish Mig 29 did some amazing stuff, there was a flyby by a Nimrod from Lossiemouth (one of theirs went down in Afghanistan last week), the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is always a tearjerker, rounded off by a Harrier doing that thing they do. There were also competing F16s from Holland and Belgium, a Hind, a Hip, and a bunch of static displays (Who knew B52's are so small? Ok, everyone but me then.)

Mrs B took some photies and video which I will try and link to/post but I am a real Luddite so it may not work.

Bonus points for anyone who can pronounce "Leuchars". :D

I think it is proper to pronounce it just like it sounds.

Hmm - just a guess, but would it be similar to "Lucas"?

I hadn't thought of that, yes, very similar to "Lucas". Five points to the gentleman with one shoe. :=D:

I spent a very pleasant week at "Lukers" back in '97. I was there with an engineering group learner British engineering techniques. That's where I experianced my first, and only, Burns Night drink fest. :P You live in that area Heid?

Live in Edinburgh throught he week, we have a cottage in Crail, about 12 miles from Leuchars, that we use at weekends.

Burns Night on an RAF base, the mind boggles . . .

I think that the celebration was put on just for us. It was September, there is a Scottish club here in Arkansas that has a Burns Night in January. I imagine if it were the real Burns Night, most Scotts would not want to spend it on base with a bunch of Americans.
