We’re a goal up at the half. A penalty, probably undeserved.

2-1 win for us and Kilmarnock drawing means the worst we can do now is end up in the playoff spot. Given the remaining fixture, we’re likely to do exactly that.

Played 173, won 85, drawn 38, lost 50.

Short rundown before the last two match days:

Hertha are in thirteenth, three points ahead of the relegation playoff spot, and five clear of direct relegation. Two more teams are below us, one on GD, one two pts behind. We have a six-pointer on Sunday, against Cologne, who are in the playoff spot. So we are currently the best of five teams still fighting relegation. One point, and we're through, as our GD looks comfortable, at least 7 better than the rest.

Greuther are in third, five below the top, two below Kiel in 2nd (they are currently playing. If they win, it's four), two above Hamburg, five above Düsseldorf. We still play two good teams (one being D-dorf), while Hamburg play two relegation candidates. So my money is on us coming in fourth or even fifth, as is our wont.

P.S. Kiel won, so we are 4 and 5 pts. behind the leaders. Looks like a done deal.

Let’s hope we don’t end up relegation buddies!

Penultimate match day, six-pointer against fellow Abstiegskandidat Cologne. Extremely tedious match, goalless after an hour. The way the other matches stand at the moment, we'd be safe, in fourteenth place, four points above the playoff spot.

We need at least a draw away at Motherwell tomorrow, or hope that Kilmarnock don’t beat Hamilton. Otherwise we finish in the playoff spot

Are you in George Square, spreading covid and singing about being up to your knees in “Fenian blood”?

I’m not confident of avoiding defeat ourselves. Other game difficult to guess, as Hamilton are regular relegation escape artists.

Hertha BSC 0 - 0 1.FC Köln

We are safe, in 14th, with 35 points; Bielefeld are above the line at them moment, with 32 points and a dramatically worse GD. Bremen, in the relegation spot, have 31; Cologne have 30 and is in 17th, meanin certain relegation (Schalke the red light, are way down with 16 points). It was Cologne's game to win today, and they damn nearly did. Phew. But I know what Hertha will do to our count in that last inconsequential game next Saturday...

Greuther as described, tomorrow at 15:30

Played 175, won 86, drawn 39, lost 50

I am watching a slightly tipsy grinning Pál Dárdai talk to the evening sports broadcast from the quarantine hotel in leafy Grunewald, in his witty and humorous Hungarian accent. Smoking a fat cigar, he goes on about how everything is decided upwards from the manager, by the suit people, and you have that funny feeling that he is joking well, but not entirely joking.

Hats off to you, Pál, and thanks a lot. You gave us an 8-game unbeaten streak when we really needed it, and you put a bit of self-respect back into our Hertha.

Well avoided, Hertha.

Meanwhile, stay classy, Rangers. Remember, this is them celebrating!

This happens with monotonous regularity, and the authorities generally turn a blind eye. I doubt punishing the club, as would seem a decent response, would achieve anything due to the kind of fuckwits you can see in that clip. The club really should do more to discourage such fuckwittery, but never has so won’t.

Oddly:

Motherwell 1 - 2 Ross County

I can only assume Heid’s successful deployment of Shirty is responsible. 3 wins in a row. Anyway, thus ends a shite season for us.

Played 176, won 87, drawn 39, lost 50.

We were a tad worried.

Greuther up 3-2 shortly after the break. The way it stands, Bochum and Kiel are through and we are competing for the playoff spot with Hamburg. Lessee.
