Yes, I don't think Olympic football counts - Arneb's depiction of it as a series of friendlies is about right. Countries get medals for it, but it still doesn't get the same attention as the FIFA or regional championships. When England got further than we expected in the Euros, and so our tournament overlapped with the start of Wimbledon, there was no question which got the greater audience. At Tokyo, I suspect that Team GB (and by the way, in the Olympics, it is Team GB, even for football) get equal attention for the football and the tennis.

There’s no Team GB men’s football team. There very rarely is, as the football associations of the constituent countries fear such a team risks undermining their status. There was one for 2012, as London was hosting and famous arsehole Seb Coe was in charge. The men’s team was pushed through against the wishes of the various football associations, and when Coe was asked what he thought about their views on the matter he said “fuck them”. There is a women’s team, though I have no idea why.

Probably because in your august FAs' view, fielding a women's team doesn't confer status anyway, so it might as well be British.

Well, it just goes to show. I follow England in the Euros and the World Cup but didn't even notice we didn't have a GB football team in the Olympics. Or that Germany and Brazil do.
