I recommend Valium . . . for the cats, not you. :)
I will never ever give tranquilizers to a cat again after an experience I had with George and Jesse while moving them from Orlando to Dallas in 1989. I gave both of them the vet recommended dosage before we hit the road in Orlando. Well...about five or six hours into the trip, I noticed that one of them (I can't remember which one) wouldn't wake up. I picked him up and he was as limp as a wet noodle. I thought I had killed him with the tranquilizer. Mercifully, he woke up after a bit. That scared me half to death.
When I moved Melville, Kitten, and Greenwood from Tulsa to Dallas a little over a year ago, they meowed loudly the whole trip. I bought a portable CD player, put the headphones on, and cranked the volume. Better to have them meowing than drugged out of their minds. Not one of them likes being in a cat carrier.
