Forum glitch elsewhere

Postby Enzo » Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:52 am

This happens top me on another board. Says "powered by vBulletin" at the bottom, I assume that is their forum software.

This has happened before, then cleared itself up.

There is a button for "quick reply" under the posts, and it opens up a relatively small window with a few controls. If you want you can "go advanced" which opens up the large post window with all the bells and whistles. The thing happens in either, but not until you get down to the bottom of the window, so ut takes a longer post in the advanced to trigger it.

WHat am I yammering about? Once I get past the bottom, the text scrolls, and the earlier parts scroll out of sight above, normally. I am able to type in whatever and it stays and will post. But what I see is that while the line being typed stays visible on screen, as soon as I move the mouse, it scrolls the view upwards. Mouse, mouse, mouse and we move up three times. And that leaves where I am typing off screen below. I can type there blind, or I can CTRL/End to set the cursor at the end, and type from there visibly, just as long as I don't move the mouse. SO to correct something mid line, I can't mouse there, I have to backspace. And it is any mouse motion, not only when th cursor is in the reply box. For example, if I got to toggle screens to look at something, it will do this to the reply box.

This symptom also happened a few years ago on a different forum, with different software.

No one else complains of this. So I am figuring Lance or someone familiar with forum software might know what this means. I have tried turning on/off scroll lock and anything else I can think of - not much, I admit - and it doesn;t happen here. And the computer navigates just fine anywhere else. Rebooting doesn;t help, I turn the system off every day, this has been going on in the current episode for a couple weeks anyway.

SO I guess I have some parameter awry, or something. ANy thoughts?

I don't know vBulletin software or if that is a specific glitch they have. Perhaps ToSeek will sto pby and see this. They use vBulletin on BAUT.

Next time you're on the page that does it try hitting [CTRL]-[F5]. This will force the browser to ignore what's in your local cache and pull the page from the server again.

It sounds to me like part of the code that drives the page is missing.

OK. Will try.

No one else makes the complaint, so I assume the shortcoming is on my computer.

Are you sure the 'shortcoming' isn't the user? 8)
