Fresh computer. Fresh install and I get this message
www.gelsana.com/gottabefake.bmp

Gotta be fake.

Does it look familiar?

It's fake. If it was an official windows thing, it would've led to their homepage, not a new homepage. Plus, there's the obvious spelling errors. If you want, though, e-mail or call Microsoft and ask them about it.

I don't think that's it, I've gotten these on a computer fresh out of the box, with an unformatted/unpartitioned hard drive, after installing windoze 2000. My suspicion is that the old CD versions (maybe if you have a CD with the latest service pack on it it is different) allow instant messaging by default, but when I update from WindozeUpdate, it gets shut down. But I never really investigated, these messages went away at some point in the build process, so I didn't worry about them...

Those are Messenger Spam.

The messenger service is built into windows and is generally only used in network environments. XP SP2 disables this.

Funny. A fresh install and this pops up so quickly. Very strange. I ran Ad-Aware and it found something but it wasn't it.

The only thing I can think of is that a fresh install is not REALLY a fresh install.

wow. Thanks.

The monitor just went blue this morning. Bad things come in 3's. Isn't that an expression.

A co-worker (OH YEAH, ONE THAT DOESN'T REALLY EXIST she is IMMAGIONNNARY OOOOO ) said Gel and I can have hers because she is going to buy a whole new system.

----------

Maybe I should post more photos and videos about the non-existant co-workers as proof of spiritual and logical annomalies.

Y'know, I didn't want to bring our issue into this post. If someone has a legitimate question or thread, I have no problem with that, and I won't get involved and interrupt the answer. I feel slightly guilty for getting involved with Animal insulting you on the thread where you were asking about how to find out the Videocard on the comp, to tell the truth.

So I didn't want to bring our issue into this thread. You decided to.

I'm glad that you instructed Dawn on how to match your own exact posting style. That's all I have to say on that.

(XP System)
Ad-aware6 and Spybot don't catch the problem
and I cleared-out all the programs in the MSCONFIG startup
and the pop-ups keep coming...

Let me try Lance's suggestion

I wish I kept track of the URL's on the pop-ups.
They are companies to know.

(and I mean "know" in a Biblical sense)
