We are not going to make it.

We are not going to make it. I mean our species is not going to survive. I am completely convinced of this.

We split from a common ancestor of Chimps 7.5 million years ago (not 4.2 like they used to think and they still like to tell us to make us feel as if we have advanced quickly) and we are still just about as stupid and worthless. The only reason why we have any technology is becaus a very very small number of us. The only reason why we think we are smart is because we have deluded ourselves into thinking this way.

I mean, I give up completely in convincing anyone into thinking for a moment logically about anything. Pick any subject. It is hopeless.

I give up. I see no glimmer of hope in us at all.

We are doomed. I am sure we are not going to last more than a few more generations because we are way too stupid.

Yes, I'm sure you're right. I used to disagree with you on this but I've changed my mind. Humans are not an intelligent species.

Agreed. So what if we don't survive as a species? No big deal. As long as TEOTWAWKI doesn't happen while I'm alive, I don't care. (Selfish, ain't I?)

Oh c'mon, don't base your opinion of an entire species on one commander in chief. :D

Intelligence is simply a tool. Or, enables the possessor to create tools. A knife that can cut a throat. Or perform open heart surgery. A rocket that can deliver a nuclear bomb. Or “land a man on the moon and return him safely to the earth.”

Sadly, BT may be right. Our technology has constantly exceeded our wisdom, and morality.

But hey, folks. Suppose we are “as good as it gets”? At least, in this galaxy. How, why did we survive the “cold war" (I would have bet against it).

Do what YOU can to make it better. (Non-violently, etc.)

To (mis) quote from the movie “13 days”:

“If we wake up tomorrow and the world is still here, it is because of men of good will.”

All this coming from a hopeless pessimist.

Ever try debating something important with someone who you can prove they are wrong and they just plain refuse to even glance at your evidence?

Eventually, if you care about the person (is that a mistake?) you are reduced to say comments like "can you at lease see or understand what I mean?". Of course they will not answer this because ... well, the truth is YES the DO see where you are coming from and maybe even understand it but they are too full of pride to admit this.

Ever see that video on You Tube where these Mormon scolars and DNA researchers are almost in tears saying "on the one hand I believed in Mormonims with all my heart and on the other hand I knew without a doubt that it could not be true... I was struggling with...."? what is the struggle, dumbass? Leave your church.

I know. I know. This is asking too much of our dumbass species.

Never saw it. Ideally, yes. Sadly, a little too simplistic an answer for an organism as complex as the human mind.
I know. I know. This is asking too much of our dumbass species.

Do not presume to speak for the entire species, Bill. If you are an exception, there may be others ...

LOL

I do not find such compliments and I know lots of poeple -- at least here -- would not agree with you.

THen again, if I am an exception it only goes to prove we are, as a whole, doomed.

If that's true then we are doomed either way.

Aw, c'mon, guys. Let a smile be your umbrella :D ... and you'll gargle when it rains. :(

Try singing this in two part harmony ... flip for who gets to be Shirley ...

We’re gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we’ll take it.
Give us any rule, we’ll break it.
We’re gonna make our dreams come true.
Doin’ it our way.

Nothin’s gonna turn us back now,
Straight ahead and on the track now.
We’re gonna make our dreams come true,
Doin’ it our way.

There is nothing we won’t try,
Never heard the word impossible.
This time there’s no stopping us.
We’re gonna do it.

On your mark, get set, and go now,
Got a dream and we just know now,
We’re gonna make our dream come true.
And we’ll do it our way, yes our way.
Make all our dreams come true,
And do it our way, yes our way,
Make all our dreams come true
For me and you.

Ok. That’s the way of it, is it? (umop aside, bless ‘er ‘eart!) Let’s try this one instead. In three part harmony:

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

- Barry McGuire’s greatest (only?) hit, but actually written by Bob Dylan.

And while making futile gestures:

Ohio Express
» Yummy

Yummy
Yummy
Yummy
I got love in my tummy
and I feel like a lovin' you;
The Love
you're such a sweet thing
good enough to eat thing
and that's just a what I'm gonna do.
Ooh love
to hold ya
ooh love
to kiss ya
ooh love
I love it so.
ooh love
you're sweeter
sweeter than sugar
Ooh love
I wont let you go.
Yummy
Yummy
Yummy
I got love in my tummy
and as silly as it may seem;
The lovin' that you're givin'
is what keeps livin'
and your love is like peaches and cream.
Kind a like sugar
kind a like spices
kind a like
like what you do.
Kind a sounds funny
but love
honey
honey I love you.
Ba da
ba da da da da.
Ba da da da da
ba da da da.
Yummy
Yummy
Yummy
I got love in my tummy
that your love can satisfy:
The Love
you're such a sweet thing
good enough to eat thing
and sweet thing
that ain't no lie.
Ooh love
to hold ya
ooh love
to kiss ya
ooh love
I love it so.
Ooh love
you're sweeter
sweeter than sugar
Ooh love
I wont let you go.
Ba da
ba da da da da
Ba da da da ...

And I recently heard they have found some lost verses to Cumbaya.

Wait a minute

Take a moment and think about this.

You are saying that everythingis going to be just fine because of a song?

OK now that you have thought about it, don't you agree that we are all smerfing doomed?

So if we're all doomed regardless, why not be happy while we can?

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the mornin' last.
Just kickin' down the cobblestones,
Lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

Hello, lamppost, whatcha knowin'?
I come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain'tcha got no rhymes for me?
Doo it doo doo, feelin' groovy.
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

I got no deeds to do, no promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morningtime drop all it's petals on me
Life, I love you, all is groovy!
Ba da da da da da da ba bap a dee...

Sorry, Bill. Guess we all agree on this one (We're doomed! Doomed, I say!*). But you can either give up on life and humanity, or go on and enjoy yourself anyway.

Poor examples, actually. Global warming? No way...

May as well say that the universe ripping apart is truly the end, everything else we can avoid.

While I am on the subject of avatars … I find it disturbing when posters (frequently) change theirs. I know it is dumb, but I come to associate the avatar with the person. Like it is representative, or connected to their personality.

The worst offenders are:

3. umop. I have already embarrassed myself on this one  , so shall say no more. For now. 8)
2. KOS (Disturbing. I may require therapy.)
1. None other than our fearless leader, the llama of llamas, the {slaps himself} … Lance. :P

Seriously, the avatar displayed somehow affects the interpretation of the communication. I think KOS mentioned this. So did some guy named Marshall McLuhan.

Just saying. :?
