RIP: Arecibo Observatory Telescope

Postby MM_Dandy » Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:36 pm

Yesterday, cables supporting the receiver platform at the Arecibo Observatory gave way, and the platform fell onto the large dish, causing massive damage. While the telescope had been scheduled for demolition following a cable break earlier this year, it's still a substantial loss to the cosmological community. It had been in use for some 57 years.

Sad.

And not only that, it got to play a role in a Bond movie, which as far as I know is more than any of us have done.

Made quite a loud bang didn't it!
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.
