Ah, Chookie Embra. Farewell to the racist paedo-hider. I see the flagshagging fucks at the BBC have replaced all their TV schedules for BBC One and BBC Two for today with Prince Phillip stuff. Good ol’ Channel 4 are carrying in as normal.

Aye, I saw that. I've boarded up the windows just in case there isn't a peaceful transition of power to Charlie Wingnut. You can't be too careful.

The one for Germany was calling Helmut Kohl Herr Reichskanzler. Phil speaking perfect German, of course.
One for Scotland I read was asking a driving instructor in Oban how he managed to keep everyone off the booze for long enough to pass the driving test.

With the Old Duke dead the streets of Edinburgh are quiet for now. Who knows what darkness will bring with the Young Duke and his hotheaded follower seeking vengeance. We hope for a peaceful transition but fear the worst. All able bodied are mustering at the cricket club where we will make our final stand if need be. A series of beacons cross the city and we are ready. If Marchmount calls The Grange will answer. They are preparing the croquet club as their citadel with its fields of fire and open approaches. We will stand together or fall separately. Night is coming, pray for us.

Hoping for a peaceful transition, and hope you won’t be chookless for too long.

ETA My son is still registered in Embra, so he’ll get to vote for the next duke!

Apparently it defaults to Charlie Wingnut, which is yet another reason to put them all up against a wall.

Just had a quick look. It defaults to Charles for now. But when Charles becomes King, it will then be "merged with the Crown", which means it disappears. Apparently when Philip was made Duke of Edinburgh by George VI as a wedding present, it was the third time the title had been created. I'd always thought it was the first time, in order to make up a title for the Queen's husband, but apparently not. The first time, it seems, was when it was given by George I to his grandson, who then passed it on to his son. But said son then became George III and the title disappeared - so the same will happen when Charles becomes King. Given that Elizabeth II is now 95, that might not to be too far off - her mum passed away at 101. Apparently, though, Charles III will then recreate it for his brother Edward as Edward was promised at his wedding that he'd become Duke of Edinburgh after Philip died.

Did Philip really call Helmut Kohl "Herr Reichskanzler"?? I hadn't heard about that one. Now Jeremy Hunt (the man who forgot where his wife was from) is no longer in Cabinet, I wonder who we can look to now!

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

Particularly given some of the comments that some had made about the reunification over which Kohl had presided.

I saw one news article that said Philip complained that he was misunderstood.

It went on to say he spent most of his life being misunderstood :)

Yeah, if you want to be understood to the depths of your beautiful soul, not acting like a cold, arrogant, racist, misogynistic arsehole is a great way to start.

I think, in his vague defence, he was just rooted firmly into a life of unimaginable privilege with it’s origins in superiority, empire and exploitation.

Absolutely he was. I think he often simply didn't get why he shouldn't say some of the things he did. Mind you, it wasn't just the ruling classes. Last night, our daughter asked me, "Daddy, what were your favourite toys when you were small?" An innocent question. But it made for an umm and err answer - there were toys that were deemed totally appropriate in the 1960s and 70s that now are recognised as just not. The difference is that I understand that - had I remained in an exclusive bubble, I might well have had no more embarrassment about answering the question than our current PM has about some of the things he's said (and even more, written!)

Regarding the chookhood - what happens if Charlie (young though he may be) snuffs it before dear ol' ma?

Then William becomes the new Duke of Edinburgh until his grandma passes away, at which point he becomes King Willam V. Should an accident befall him before he then, it passes to George. The current line to throne is:

Charles
William
George
Charlotte
Louis
Harry (he's still Prince)
Archie

In terms of the title of Duke of Edinburgh, it passes down the line until the current holder becomes King. (Unlike the throne, Duke of Edinburgh cannot pass to a female, so if it came to it, it would jump from George to Louis.) At that point, it disappears, but as noted in an earlier post, a deal has already been done that it will promptly be recreated and given to Edward. There are so many in line to the throne before him that the odds of him becoming King first are decidedly remote.

Of course, if big ears does ever become king he won’t necessarily be a King Charles. Particularly how the first two got on. Prince Charles' names are Charles Philip Arthur George, so instead of becoming King Charles III he might become King George VII, or King Philip, or King Arthur.

I've seen it said that the Queen could pass on the Crown before death, as could Charles. So William could become King almost immediately in theory. Do you know if this is correct?
