We need to close the border. Covid is rampant and uncontrolled in England just now. We have huge numbers of irresponsible idiots coming up here in their gammon wagons from who knows what southern plague pits, refusing to wear masks and shitting all over the place.

That would make a lot of sense - Sturgeon closed the border at least once before and she could do it again.

Happily here in Cambridge, not much seems to have changed. People are still asked to wear masks on the bus and generally comply. Our dentist is pretty cautious, requiring masks in the waiting room and dispensing hand sanitiser and checking temperature before you get to the treatment room, etc. Tomorrow, though, I shall see what the new “pretend it’s not there” regime is like on the train.

Unfortunately it would (again) be described by the BBC et al as political gesturing, rather than as a very real public health concern. Good luck with the train, be interested to hear how it is. LNER announced yesterday that English rules, eg no social distancing, would apply on cross-border trains - in defiance of the law here.

Same idiots protesting ‘Stop COVID!’ in Sydney and Melbourne today

:glp-1rof1:
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

Wow. Not protesting restrictions or anything?

Yes, in their lamb-brained heads, that's what they mean

Lianachan, I know what you mean! The Tories made a far bigger deal over Scotland closing the border than they did over Wales doing the same.

As for my experience on the train, it just underlined LNER's irresponsible attitude. I was pleased to see that both Cambridge station and the actual (Great Northern) train had prominent signs telling people to continue to wear their masks - which were pretty much complied with.
