Well, to those who observe such things, anyway. :D :-D

As for the rest of you - have a nice day.

American Thanksgiving and Hannukah on same day this year.

I think we have to cook out turkeys over menorah candle flames. I works, but it takes eight days.

Being somebody who lives on the original side of the pond, I don't know anything about Thanksgiving other than what I've seen in film/TV.

What are the thanks for, and who are they given to? Any excuse to eat roast turkey is to be welcomed, so maybe we could introduce it over here (maybe on our independence day).

it's a day when we're supposed to be grateful for what we have, so tomorrow, we can shop for what we want.

seriously. it's our attempt at having a day when we say we're grateful for our family, loved ones, that although we may hate our job, at least we have one...

Thanks! Sounds a bit wishy-washy to me - but all opportunities to eat, drink and be merry should be exploited to the full.

Apparently this is disputed, but the American version (they have it Canada, Liberia, and Grenada) allegedly commemorates the harvest of 1621. So a group of people (English Dissenters, not Puritans) set off from Europe, aiming for Virginia, but reaching Plymouth, Massachusetts by mistake, in 1620. Things were a bit dicey for a while, and there wasn't a whole lot to eat. Then the harvest came in, and there was enough to eat - let's all give thanks.

The Puritans settled at Boston a few years later, 1628.

If you are looking for a reason to celebrate with roast turkey, perhaps you could commemorate the departure of these groups from Europe (although note that only some of them departed).

Yet another turkey day looms, and this year I am thankful that my in-laws decided not to visit us over the weekend.

Hey yes, happy Thanksgiving

Our son plus girlfriend will be over for a meal. Not roasting a whole turkey, just a breast.
