I review the Oriental Trading Co website daily checking to see if they have new ducks, new deals on ducks, new offers on shipping for ducks, you know, the basics.
Last fall, they had some new ducks "Racer" ducks (where you pull them back along the table surface, let go and they race off). But they were more expensive than their normal ducks (at $10 per doz vs. 6.50 - 7.00 per doz) so I didn't get them, plus I thought it had limited appeal. Well, after Christmas (they had little Santa hat on em) they went deep discount to like $3 per doz. So I ordered some. And, as usual, I was waiting downstairs during coffee hour when the mail gets delivered for them to arrive. and as always, I opened them on the spot. Took one out reared it back and let 'im go. And zip he shoots across the table and suddenly the room is reeling. I must have handed out 8 ducks on the spot. Everyone wanted one. Some had to be taught (painstakingly slowly) how to activate them, but pretty soon half dozen little old ladies are racing ducks across the tables laughing wildly. The resident manager scooped up 3 of them (they came in 3 hat colors - red, blue and green) so at our parties we'll have duck races.
a few days later, I'm downstairs and Ruth (little old lady and good friend to us) demanded where was her racer duck. Apparently, she spotted the resident manager playing with them and asked her where she got them. The answer "Where do you think, Ruth?" So Ruth got a spartan green hatted one and is happy now. I don't give them to the kids at the restaurants ('cause, well, you know), but the servers have gotten them and did duck races after the place closed.
Now they're at deeper discount of $2 per dozen! and free shipping on any size order!!! so I've got another 3 dozen coming...
(I've had a total of two of them that the wheels were misaligned and so don't work, but Enzo promises he'll get around to trying to fix them - right after our taxes...)
